Yearly Goals for Rest & Fun

It is the first quarter of the year. It is the perfect time to focus on outlining goals and making a plan for the year. I know you are looking at your progress and tweaking your plan to achieve your goals for the year. While you are focused on your career, business, degrees, gaining new skills, family and life goals don’t forget to create goals around resting and enjoying life. It is important to create goals and make a plan for relaxation and having. This year I challenge you to create goals for rest and fun.

Rest Is a Strategy

When you outline your plan to accomplish your goals did you make time to rest? How often did you plan your rest periods? Do you dedicate an hour of each day for stillness?

I have kiddos and I know how incredibly hard it can be to make time for rest. For me, I pick a day of the week for rest. Each Sunday is devoted to rest. I use Saturday and Monday to prepare for the week ahead. There are times when I can dedicate the entire day to rest. When I cannot rest the entire day, I devote at least 4 hours to nothingness. It brings me so much joy and peace. If a few hours once a week is hard, I challenge you to at least plan rest once a month. Going nonstop is not healthy and can hinder us in accomplishing our goals.

I find when I take a moment to rest I am rejuvenated. If I had mental blocks they are freed. I get a burst of energy and new ideas and strategies to achieve my goals. I believe you will too, when you make time to rest.

Room For Your Version of Fun

In addition to making time to rest and relax it is important to make time for fun. Fun is different for everyone. I have a friend that enjoys taking naps for fun. Another friend that just wants to laugh with friends and family.  I have fun pampering myself, traveling, hanging with friends and family and learning new random things like pottery and videography. Whatever fun is for you make sure you are making time for those fun activities at least once a month if not more. Making time for fun keeps positive energy flowing to you and gives you the enthusiasm to reach your goals.

Rest & Plan: A Right Not Reward

I encourage you to make time for rest and fun no matter what is happening. I have been a super overachiever. I could not rest until I reached a certain goal. I did not think I deserved any fun until I finished a specific project. In 2024, after my sabbatical, I found it important to make time for rest and fun even when I was not accomplishing anything. You can read about my sabbatical experience here. I hope this blog and the one about my sabbatical encourages you to make time for rest and fun in 2026.
