Part 2: Cheronda’s Education
Part 2 as promised. This is for the readers like me, earning degrees and licenses like infinity stones. I have 3 degrees and a real estate license. Here is my journey through education.
Education
The first degree I earned was a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University, graduating Cum Laude in May 2007. This degree has been helpful with navigating the educational system for my children and understanding their development. It also made me an excellent teacher and educator. I taught middle school, was a college professor and worked as a trainer. I still consider myself an educator. This blog is educational, the Nonprofit Coaching Club is educational and when I interact with clients from real estate to consulting they always talk about how they learned something. Understanding how people learn has allowed me to be an advocate and patient with my children and successful with clients.
Nonprofits & Government
When I was in school to become a teacher, I knew I did not want to be a teacher. However, I had a daughter in 2003 and being a teacher would allow for job security and summers off. Teaching did not last long. I taught middle school for two years from 2007-2009. My goal was to get a degree to transition out of teaching. I earned a Master of Science in Public Service Management from DePaul University in June 2011. Now this degree is all things government and nonprofits. This was the springboard to my expansive knowledge, experience and expertise I have in the nonprofit and government sectors.
Business, Human Resources & Culture
In January 2014, I started my pursuit for my third degree. That was 11 years ago. I don’t remember how I ended up in this program. Blame the post-partum brain as my son was almost 2 when I started this program. In June 2016, I earned a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior from Benedictine University. Although I don’t remember how I ended up in this degree, it is MY FAVORITE DEGREE. I was so interested in the information I was learning, I graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. I was inducted in the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society. The degree program is essentially all about project management and the people, culture and change management side of business.
Real Estate
In May 2019, I started taking a Real Estate Broker Course. July 2, 2019, I passed the state exam and became a licensed Real Estate Agent in the state of Illinois. Even if you are not buying in Illinois, I have a network of agents all over the country. I can help you buy, sell and invest anywhere in the USA. Purchasing real estate is still a great way to build wealth for yourself and the next generation. It is one of my favorite topics. I am going to write later of my experience rehabbing a 1000 square foot apartment when I was 24 years old.
More to come
In true Lynn fashion I am looking to go back to school for a doctorate. There are few doctorate degrees I am researching. We’ll see what happens next.
